Defend the weak and the fatherless: uphold the cause of the poor and oppressed. Psalm 82:3 (NIV)

I have been there.

There’s a post on facebook that says “I give because I know what it is like to have nothing”.  This quote sums up my life now.

There was a time in my life when I had nothing…no money, no car and I lived in a basement in Bronx, NY, a home I share with two large rats.  I had hit bottom.  The first thing I did was to address 25 years of alcohol abuse and sober up!  I attended AA meetings in Manhattan daily for many months.  By the grace of God, I have been clean and sober for over 33 years.

I was then able to obtain a sales job in New Jersey and had a 20+ year successful run.  I was blessed with many awards and prosperity.  I was able to have material things never before imagined.  God was gracious.

When I see someone struggling, I understand.  When I see extreme poverty, I understand.  Whatever the cause, when I see people in need, I consider it a “call” to help.

God led me to Haiti and gave me a passion for His precious children.  These kids live in distress through no fault of their own.  They deserve a chance at life just as much as I do.

Sunday, I will be 77 years young and for my remaining days on this earth, I will “give back” that which God has given me.
